Drunk' Delhi cop, who made headlines, suffered from stroke

Salim has approached the Supreme Court asking for compensation for defamation on social media.

New Delhi: A Delhi police constable, whose video had gone viral for travelling drunk, was suffering from partial paralysis, according to a Daily Mail report.

Salim reportedly suffered a blackout when he was on the metro and that was the reason why he fell down when it came to a sudden halt.

Salim has approached the Supreme Court asking for compensation for his defamation on social media which has 'irreparably maligned his image in the eyes of the public'.

In August last year, a video clip showing a ‘drunk’ policeman travelling in Delhi metro had gone viral on social media.

The video showed the constable in an inebriated state struggling to hold on to a pole while swinging back and forth inside a coach.

As the train halted, the cop fell down on the floor and had to be helped by fellow passengers.

After knowing about his medical condition, the Delhi police in November withdrew the suspension and reinstated Salim.

“When the video went viral and Salim was suspended, it made front page news. When he was taken back, not a single newspaper or TV channel carried it. In the eyes of the general public, the petitioner was drunk in the metro and he is still under suspension,” Salim’s lawyer, Wills Mathews told Daily Mail.
