Bengaluru: Gagandeep to head ACB, Saleem deputy
BENGALURU: The state government, which has courted controversy by forming the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), has appointed senior IPS officer K.V. Gagandeep as the head of ACB. Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.A. Saleem has also been transferred and appointed as IGP of ACB with immediate effect.
Mr Gagandeep, who was serving as Principal Secretary, Home Department (PCAS), has been appointed the Additional Director General of Police of ACB. The government is yet to announce replacements for the two officers.
The government will transfer more police officials to the bureau, based on the report which will be submitted by Mr Gagandeep in a few weeks. The bureau has a sanctioned strength of 322 police officers.
Meanwhile, no office space has been allotted for the ACB and the government has considered several places, including Khanija Bhavan on Race Course Road.
Sources said that the government is contemplating bringing some minor changes to the notification issued to set up the ACB, as there has been criticism over its functioning. As per the notification, the ACB has to get permission from the authorities concerned before launching a probe against any corrupt official.
With the new amendment, the ACB will be allowed to launch the probe and take permission from the authorities only at the time of filing the chargesheet before the court, they said.
