Muhamma panchayat latest entry in RT network
ALAPPUZHA: The tourism department has brought over 1,000 families, mostly engaged in a variety of traditional occupations in Muhamma panchayat, to the Responsible Tourism (RT) network to propagate the advantages of tourism.
District panchayat president G. Venugopal, who inaugurated the event at Muhamma on Tuesday, praised the role of villagers in the Responsible Tourism mission. As many as 1,000 units have been working under RT Mission across the district, the hub of backwater tourism.
The Responsible Tourism activities offer the visitors a feel of rustic life and a network of canals linking them to the interiors, including fishing hamlets. The area also offers folk and classical art forms and martial art, and the RT activities extend support to them.
A workshop on RT was held after the inauguration. The participants were briefed about the features and approaches of tourism activities that help in preserving heritage and sustaining ecology. Rupesh Kumar, state RT Mission co-ordinator, led the workshop. S. Harish talked about the RT Mission activities in the district.
District collector S. Suhas was the chief guest. Panchayat vice- president Maya Maju presided. Tourism deputy director T. G. Abhilash Kumar, district panchayat member Jameela Purushothaman and block panchayat member V. M. Sugandhi attended the function.
