Hyderabad: Police officers questioned in Jayaram murder case

The inspector claimed that he turned Rakesh away, and spoke after only after the crime.

Hyderabad: Ibrahimpatnam ACP Malla Reddy and Nallakunta circle inspector Srinivas, police officers named in the murder of NRI industrialist Chigurupati Jayaram, appeared for an inquiry at the Banjara Hills ACP office. Police also checked the bank account of Jayaram’s niece Shikha Choudhary at KBS Bank, Madhapur. One of the accused officers confirmed that he had spoken to prime accused Rakesh Reddy before and after the murder. One of the policemen reportedly suggested to Rakesh Reddy that the murder should be projected as an accident.

Official sources said that Rakesh Reddy wanted to settle the case in the police station with the help of a police officer he knew, but this did not work out as the officer on duty instructed Rakesh Reddy not to bring the matter to the police station. Frustrated and unable to find a solution to his problem, Rakesh Reddy murdered Jayaram in his house and informed the officer who helped him to pretend it was an accident.

Srinivas reportedly admitted that Rakesh Reddy contacted him about the case. The inspector claimed that he turned Rakesh Reddy away saying he was busy and later spoke to him over the phone a number of times after he committed the crime.

Investigation officer K. Srinivasa Rao, ACP, Banjara Hills, created a crime scene reconstruction on Tuesday along with the accused. “Based on the reconstruction of the crime scene, the grilling of two police officers was done today and very soon the entire details of investigation will be out in the open for all,” said the ACP.

The car of the Ibrahimpatnam ACP was hit by a speeding two-wheeler rider in Banjara Hills while he was returning home after the interrogation.

Jayaram was reportedly lured to the residence of Rakesh Reddy on January 31 and killed. His body was disposed of on the highway. Rakesh Reddy and three others Vishal, Srinivasulu and Nagesh were arrested.
