Conference on cardio-thoracic surgery to be held in Chennai

More than 250 international and more than 1500 national delegates are to participate in the four-day conference.

Chennai: The joint international conference of Asian Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons(ASCVTS) along with the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) will be held in the city from Thursday. More than 250 international and more than 1500 national delegates are to participate in the four-day conference.

The conference theme for this year is 'Re-inventing Cardiothoracic Thoracic Surgery' and is aimed at taking this message to the public with prime emphasis on discussions about newer interventional techniques, imaging methods and exploring new frontiers.

"The conference will have focused sessions on improving patient outcomes of heart, lung transplant surgeries, minimally invasive valve and coronary artery bypass surgeries, lung surgeries, pediatric and neonatal heart surgeries highlight the re-emergence of cardiothoracic surgery. There are separate sessions for hands-on training and workshops for nurses and other para-medical students," said Dr Rajan Sethuratnam, secretary, IACTS and organizing secretary, IACTSCON 2019.

The conference is also set to launch their new App for the members of Indian Association of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgeons to enable doctors to stay connected and updated about the new developments.

"The conference aims to bring out the reinvented newer modalities and innovations that are bringing about further advancement to the quality of surgeries. From open-heart surgeries to minimally invasive techniques, the field of cardiac surgery has come a long way,' said Dr Rajan Santosham, organizing chairman, IACTS.
