Bull taming event turns violent, mob lathi charged

Krishnagiri: Tension spread across Madhakondapalli village here on Wednesday as a bull taming event that was held here was suddenly stopped by police, triggering violence by angry villagers.

Thally police registered a case and have arrested over 20 persons on charges of damaging government property and also attacking government staff.

The incident occurred at Madhakondapalli village, 15 kilometers from Hosur on the Thally - Hosur road, during a bull taming event, which was organised a day after the village car festival, here.

Police had initially permitted the villagers to conduct the event for some time, but when the event was being organised, had asked the organisers to stop the event midway stating that it was being conducted without permission from the appropriate authorities.

The mob, angry over the police not allowing them to conduct the event till evening, threw stones on the police and also on personnel from the fire and rescue department.

As many as 10 vehicles including a police jeep and a truck belonging to the fire and rescue department was damaged in the stone throwing.

Two fire and rescue department personnel also sustained injuries in the incident. They have been identified as Chandrasekar (43) and Bettaiyan (45). The injured were admitted to the Denkannikottai government hospital.
