Hyderabad: The Shia community in the city observed the martyrdom of Bibi Fatima Zehra, daughter of Prophet Mohammed, on Tuesday, the third day of the Islamic month of Jamadi-us-Sani.
It is the Shia community’s belief that Bibi Fatima died because of injuries sustained when enemies attacked her house, 75 days after the death of the Prophet. Religious gatherings (Majlis) were held at most of the ashoorkhanas in the city till late in the night. Several thousands from across the city converged at the ashoorkhanas and women in large numbers prayed at the congregations.
Telangana Shia Youth Conference president Syed Hamed Hussain Jaffery said important programmes were held at Bibi Ka Chasma, Alawa-e-Sartoq, Bibi Ka Alawa and Azakhane Zehra among other important ashoorkhanas.
Dressed in black, the Shia community members visited the ashoorkhanas where mourning sessions were here. A procession was taken out late in night in the Darulshifa of the Old City areas. The Sunni community believed that Fatima died during the month of Ramzan.
