Congress moots big, sustainable fight
Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress leadership is engaged in deft manoeuvring to ensure that the political campaign against murderous politics in Kannur does not slip into the conventional pattern of vendetta politics. Which is why Congress leader K. Sudhakaran's fast before Kannur Collectorate, now proposed to be indefinite, met with a counter organizational move; YC State president Dean Kuriakose and vice-president C. R. Mahesh also started a fast in front of the Secretariat against youth leader T. H. Shuhaib’s murder.
While Mr Suhdakaran’s fast was a local reaction to horrendous killing, the one by the youth leaders has been the KPCC initiative. The fact at both venues was initially for 48 hours. But with Mr Sudhakaran deciding to extend his format to indefinite fast, KPCC leadership followed suit. While Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the fast before the Secretariat, PCC president M M Hassan, predecessor V. M. Sudheeran, Kannur DCC president Satheesan Pacheni and other DCC leaders were present at Mr Sudhakaran’s fast.
“The KPCC leadership feared that the campaign would become Sudhakaran-centric, depriving the organization of its leverage in handling a pan-State tragedy. They wanted to convey to the public that it was not a solo fight but a combined onslaught, launched at two distant venues to the common objective”, a Congress leader told DC.
