Bengaluru: It was total chaos on Domlur flyover on Monday as the BBMP took up resurfacing of a down ramp linking MG Road from Indiranagar 100 Feet Road. Due to the lack of signage at the beginning of the flyover and adequate information to commuters, motorists had to go up the flyover only to find the road blocked. They either had to return on the one-way or take another ramp where the vehicles were coming from the opposite direction.
Although, there was a signage to use ramp (one-way) leading to Koramangala from Domlur side, it could not be accessed due to the vehicle flow in the opposite direction. This led to gridlocks on the flyover as the traffic from Domlur and Indiranagar clashed.
Mr Nagarjun K., a resident of Indiranagar, said, “When will the BBMP learn to be citizen-friendly? The authorities had not put up proper signboards on closing this road. We were all put to a lot of inconvenience."
Though commuters agreed that the road had to be resurfaced, they complained about the lack of information. "The work could have been taken up during weekends or general holidays to avoid inconvenience to motorists," they said.
When Deccan Chronicle asked an executive engineer from the BBMP Traffic Engineering Cell, he maintained that it was publicised enough and that the Palike had put out advertisements in newspapers.
Asked on the need to take up the maintenance work during peak hours at the beginning of the week, he said, "The ramp will be opened in 3 or 4 days. We have closed down the ramp to resurface it with Tiki tar rolls which are fit for all weather and are water resistant."
