Ramavarapadu to be hot spot
Vijayawada: The face of Ramavarapadu, the urban agglomeration of Vijayawada and the entrance point of city, is going to be transformed into a mega junction of road and rail network soon. Ramavarapadu Ring, which is connecting point of the National Highway and the Eluru Road in Vijayawada, welcomes people of five districts on the northern side and the air passengers from Vijayawada Airport at Gannavaram.Though it is part of Vijayawada, Ramavarapadu is still a village under Vijayawada rural mandal.
The flyover part of the Inner Ring Road is already landing at Ramavarapadu to meet the National Highway making the junction much more complex. It is also important for highway traffic between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam cities and beyond. Adding to this, Benz Circle flyover plan, which is supposed to start at Skew Bridge near Jyothi convention centre and end at Nirmala Convent junction is extended up to Ramavarapadu ring, according to officials.
On the other hand, a metro rail station would come up close to Ramavarapadu once the Vijayawada Metro Rail project becomes a reality. It already has a railway station and a canal beside the Inner Ring Road flyover. “It would not be the same after five years or even before and it is a welcome note to have such a gateway to the city here. But we fear if all these works affect our residences in future,” said Mr L. Sashi, a resident of Ramavarapadu.
The first publication of Census of India in 2011 declared Ramavarapadu as an urban agglomeration with a population of nearly 20,000. However, currently the population in the area would be more than a lakh as it became home for many citizens.
