LDF holds protest against graft

Mr Rajeev also said the lack of will on the part of the state government had resulted in the delay of the project.

KOCHI: The Ernakulam district committee of the Left Democratic Front held a people's collective against corruption close to the inaugural venue of the SmartCity Kochi on Saturday, saying the government was hoodwinking people by “inaugurating” unfinished projects.

CPM district secretary P. Rajeev justified the agitation on the ground that CPM and the LDF were not opposed to the SmartCity and the protest only highlighted the attempt to use the occasion to score political points ahead of the elections.

Mr Rajeev also said the lack of will on the part of the state government had resulted in the delay of the project. Although the project promised to create 90,000 jobs the number of jobs to be generated in the first phase is only 5,500, he pointed out.

He also took a dig at the Mr Chandy trying to take credit for the venture without acknowledging the role played by the previous government.
