Kerala: City Gas project inaugurated
KOCHI: The people having apprehensions about the safety of piped natural gas will be brought to Kochi to demonstrate the safety of the system, chief minister Oommen Chandy said on Saturday. Speaking after inaugurating the piped gas connection project in the city Mr. Chandy said district collectors in the state will be instructed to bring the people expressing doubts about the safety underground pipeline network supplying gas to Kochi to have a firsthand experience.
Mr. Chandy referred to the resistance to GAIL gas pipeline project in many parts of the state in this regard. The first domestic gas connection was switched on at the house of Pavithran, a headload worker at Kangarappady by Mr. Chandy.
The first commercial connection was provided to the canteen of the government Medical College. Nine other houses in the vicinity of the medical college were also served with the new system.
Ministers P. K. Kunhalikutty, V. K. Ebrahimkunju and Anoop Jacob addressed the function and stressed the importance of the safety of the gas supply through a pipeline network. Addressing the gathering K. V. Thomas, MP, said that the new system of gas supply would take the state a step forward in the path of development.
The project named the City Gas has been implemented by Indian Oil Adani Gas Private Ltd, a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation and Adani Group.
The project aims to provide piped gas to nearly 50,000 households in the Kochi city, apart from supplying compressed natural gas for vehicles.
