Chennai: A total lockdown would be enforced on Sunday, January 23, following the same set of relaxations and restrictions of last Sunday’s lockdown, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced on Friday.
In view of the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus in the State, strict measures have become necessary, an official press release said, urging people to cooperate with the authorities in fighting the pandemic by following norms.
People travelling from one place to another and reaching their destinations on Sunday, however, would be able to reach the place of stay as auto rickshaws and app-based taxi services would be allowed to operate from bus stands and railway stations, the release said.
Meanwhile, the supply of dry rations to student beneficiaries of the Nutritious Noon Meal Scheme has started, on the orders of the government, since all educational institutions have been closed as part of the precautionary measures to tackle the spread of Coronavirus.
Each student in the primary classes would be provided with 1.100 kg of rice, 594 grams of dhal, 40 grams of pulses and 11 eggs every 15 days, while the ration for school students of higher classes would be 1.650 kg of rice, 890 grams of dhal, 40 grams of pulses and 11 eggs.
Students of Classes nine and ten have also been included in the ration supply process, which on the whole would benefit 42,13,617 students, the release said.
Similarly, beneficiaries of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), including pregnant women, have also started receiving the rations at their homes....
