Amaravati will need Rs 1lakh crore, says Jagan Mohan Reddy

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy moved the resolution to develop three capitals and it was accepted in the absence of the Opposition.

Vijayawada: The AP Legislative Assembly passed a resolution to develop three capitals with the legislature at Amaravati, the Secretariat at Visakhapatnam and the High Court at Kurnool on Monday. It also passed two Bills dealing with decentralisation of governance and inclusive development of all regions and to repeal AP Capital Region Development Authority Act, 2014.

Several TD MLAs were placed under suspension as they were protesting that Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu was not given time to speak.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy moved the resolution to develop three capitals and it was accepted in the absence of the Opposition. The CM said that he wished development of all regions on equal basis and turned down criticism from the Telugu Desam that he was against the interests of the farmers who offered 33,000 acres in the land pooling scheme. He refuted allegations that he was against a particular social group and was relocating the Secretariat and High Court only to take revenge against them.

He said it required nearly Rs 1.09 lakh crore to develop basic amenities in the 53,000-acre Amaravati. It would take nearly 100 years if they could spent Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 1,200 crore per annum and asked whether it could be good to optimise the precarious resources by developing other regions by investing less money.
