Shashi Tharoor to unveil new aerobin today
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shashi Tharoor, MP, will unveil the brand new aerobin made in Australia to be installed at Peroorkada Girl Higher Secondary School at a function to be held at 10.30 am. The aerobin designed in Australia will be installed in Tharoor's constituency. The plan is to evaluate the new aerobin, which could be adopted by the City Corporation for their ambitious decentralised waste management.
The new model is claimed to be better than all the existing decentralised waste management methods adopted by the City Corporation.
Ann Andrews, a former advisor of Shashi Tharoor MP, who drew up the aerobin project, said that the aerobin has an advantage over existing composting devices as the bin can be fed from the top and the compost can be extracted from the bottom. “So a single bin is sufficient for the use of a household or an establishment with reduced maintenance associated with other models,” said Ann. She said that the compost generated is the most suitable fertilizer for organic farming. “There are many composting centers run by the civic body but it’s inaccessible for the public,” added Ann.
The aerobin comes in three sizes and individual unit cost around Rs 10,000.
