Karnataka state students fare well in JEE Mains
Bengaluru: As the results of the first-ever Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) were announced during the weekend, students from the state have fared well with a candidate securing 100 percentile.
Kevin Martin, the state topper and one among 15 from the entire country who achieved the fete for Paper- I, is a student of Bangalore International Academy in Jayanagar. Crediting success to his parents and mentors from Allen Career Institute, where he attended coaching classes, he said that staying focused and away from smart phones was his mantra for success. “While the coaching institute helped me develop analytical and critical thinking techniques, it was my personal decision not to get immersed in my smart phone and other gadgets. This offered me more time and a clear goal to aim for as I concentrated well for my preparations which took place over the last two years,” he said. He said he wants to pursue a course at IIT-Madras, where his brother is studying now.
Another topper from the state, Sundararajan Srinivasan, who scored 99.977 percentile said, “After the exam, I felt I could have done better. I challenged NTA on two questions in physics as all the answer choices were wrong. My teachers were very helpful throughout my preparation. I always ensured I got enough sleep which along with my teachers’ advice helped me do well.” Apart from him, 24 other students from BASE coaching centres in the city secured more than 99 percentile in the examination, a statement from the institute read.
Other toppers from the state include Sashank K.J. (99.961), Chetan Reddy N. (99.929), M. Sudeep Gowda (99.881), Sriram S.M. (99.834), Kaustabh Roy (99.956) and Shatakshi Sarangi (99.916).
The next choice for candidates to appear for the same exam is on April 2019. Candidates can apply online from February 8 to March 7, while the exams are scheduled between April 6 and 20. The final rank list will be published after considering the better of the two scores recorded by each candidate.
