Women and child health care a priority in govt's health mission: Puducherry CM

CM said the UT has the unique distinction of having larger no of medical colleges and one of the highest doctor population ratios in India.

Puducherry: Health care of women and children is a priority in the health mission of Puducherry government, which had integrated existing schemes of reproductive and child health care, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said.

He said the mission had also integrated the national leprosy eradication programme, revised national tuberculosis programme, vector borne diseases control schemes, besides national programme for control of blindness and integrated disease surveillance programme.

In addition to government sponsored health care facilities, medical institutions in the private sector had also brought in several top end infrastructure in Puducherry.

He said the main aim of the mission was to provide accessible affordable and reliable health care, especially to the poor and vulnerable sections of society.

His message was read out in absentia at the one day second annual conclave of Hospital Administrators (HACON 2017) on 'current challenges in private teaching hospitals', organised by privately managed Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and

Research Institute in Puducherry on Saturday.

Narayanasamy was scheduled to inaugurate the meet, but could not attend it due to some official engagements. His message was read out by an official of the college.

The Chief Minister said the Union Territory has the unique distinction of having larger number of medical colleges and one of the highest doctor population ratios in India.

He said the Mahatma Gandhi Medical college and Research Institute is a vital partner in government's Health Mission Prof. P Rajaraman, Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, under which the medical college functions, inaugurated the conclave.

Chairman of the Balaji Vidyapeeth M K Rajagopalan released an e-abstract of the conclave.

Delegates from various states participated in the deliberations on various challenges private teaching hospitals were facing in the country.
