DGP Ravi Gupta released a book on SCRB

Hyderabad: Footage from closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras helped Telangana police detect 18,234 cases during 2022, according to a the first-ever such report in Telangana state that was released by Director-General of Police Ravi Gupta here on Tuesday.

“In 2022, 1,74,205 CCTV cameras have been installed, taking the total number of cameras to 10,25,849,” he said. The report, ‘Crime in Telangana 2022’ is the first such attempt in Telangana state since its formation and was compiled by the State Crime Records Bureau.

According to the report, when compared to the year 2021, cybercrime had increased by 48.47 per cent, economic offences by 41.37 per cent and the crimes relating to cheating had risen by 43.30 per cent.

The report said that property offences, economic offences, cybercrime and crime against women had caught the attention of general public during 2022.

Over the years SCRB has played a crucial role in assisting investigations in linking crime to their perpetrators, maintaining crime statistics is the main duty charter of SCRB, DGP Gupta said.

As per the National Crime Records Bureau ‘Crime in India 2022’ report, Hyderabad was ranked third after Kolkata and Pune as the safest city, with the least number of cognisable offences per lakh population.

“Such valuable information in the book that not only aids law enforcement authorities in crafting effective strategies for crime prevention but also serves as a catalyst for informed discussions and debates on matters of public safety,” Gupta said.

Telangana police were paying special attention to investigation and prosecution, our special emphasis on optimum utilisation of scientific tools, forensic science, cyber technology and ensure high quality digital evidence to secure more convictions in the year 2022, Additional DG CID Mahesh Bhagwat said.
