Thiruvandrapuram: Banks to be closed from December 21-26
Thiruvandrapuram: Banks in the state are likely to remain shut for five days between December 21 and 26. The All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC) has called for a strike on December 21 raising various demands, including pay revision.
December 22 and 23 will be holidays on account of fourth Saturday and Sunday. December 24 will be a working day before the Christmas next day. The United Forum of Bank Unions has called for a strike on December 26 to protest against the merger of Bank of Baroda, Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank which is likely to hit banking services.
Meanwhile, sources in the sector said that the strike on December 21 is likely to be withdrawn as the AIBOC was participating in the protest on December 26 also.
The continuous closure of banks may affect loading cash in ATMs. Hence many bank customers were withdrawing money in advance.
