Thiruvananthapuram: Min, MD differ over RTC wages

It cancelled 1093 services due to the lack of conductors on Wednesday after the termination of conductors.

Thiruvananthapuram: Differences over wages of newly appointed conductors from the PSC list in place of empanel conductors ousted by the high court have come in the open. KSRTC MD Tomin J. Thachankary on Wednesday said that the recruits would not get the salary proposed by the PSC.

However, within hours transport minister A. K. Saseendran corrected him.

He said they would be given the salary as per the PSC appointment order and words of the MD were misinterpreted.

KSRTC held a meeting of depot chiefs here to discuss the situation.

Mr Thachankary also said ousted conductors would not be regularised soon. Their performances will be analysed before regularisation.

“The newly recruited conductors will have to write the conductor's test of the motor vehicle department. KSRTC does not have any trick to allow all recruits to pass the test,” he told reporters.

He said that there were no losses of revenue due to the cancellation of buses after the dismissal of empanel employees.

The daily collection on Tuesday was '6.5 crore. Last Tuesday it was '5.5 crore. It was because of a hartal on that day.

However, on the previous Tuesday, the collection stood at '6.5 crore. The KSRTC could ensure there were no losses by proper rescheduling, he said.

It cancelled 1093 services due to the lack of conductors on Wednesday after the termination of conductors.

The high power meeting of KSRTC decided to speed up the recruitment and induction process. Usually, this process takes more than a month. The plan is to complete it in a week.

After vetting documents of the recruits, they will be posted to various depots and given an orientation course for two days by trainers who have got special training.

Usually, it is conducted for all the recruits together at the Staff Training College. They will be assigned the duty with an experienced conductor for two days before independent assignments.
