Hyderabad: An illegal electric fencing to kill wild boars has claimed the life of a four-year-old boy, who was playing along with his three siblings near his house at Doctor Basti in Dundigal on Wednesday. The Dundigal police registered a case against the man who erected the fencing and is investigating.

All the children, aged below 8 years, were playing in the neighbourhood when the incident took place. The injured children have been admitted to Mallareddy Hospital and are being treated, said Dundigal police.

Dundigal police said Abdul Arif, a resident of Doctor Basthi in Gandimasiamma, had four children, Sadhiya Begum, Md Mudasir, Md Ashraf and Md Azhar, 4. Arif and his wife were fruit vendors, and Arif’s mother Zaheda Bee took care of the children when the parents were at work.

On Wednesday morning, after Arif and his wife left home, the children had breakfast and were playing in front of the house. While playing, they all moved to the neighbourhood to go to the open land. Rajesh Kumar, the owner of the land, had recently erected iron fencing and electrified it using a wire from his house.

All the kids accidentally touched the fence and suffered electrocution. On hearing their screams, the locals rushed to the spot and alerted Zaheda. With their help, the kids were rushed to Mallareddy hospital for treatment, where the doctors declared the younger kid dead on arrival.

Zaheda Bee in her complaint to the Dundigal police alleged that Rajesh’s negligence had claimed the life of her grandchild and requested action.

Dundigal inspector Shakaraiah said, “Rajesh Kumar put up an iron fence to prevent wild boars from entering his land and killing them, which is illegal. The children while playing came in contact with the fence supplied with electricity and received severe burns. Md Azhar, the youngest child was declared dead when he was taken to a private hospital.”

The inspector said that a case has been registered against Rajesh Kumar under Section 304 II of IPC (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and he was taken into custody. He would be produced in court for judicial remand.
