9 government wings to move to North Karnataka
Belagavi: The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to move nine offices to Belagavi and two RTI Commissioners to Kalaburgi.
However, whether eight of the nine offices can be hosted in Suvarna Soudha or not would be decided after consulting the Legislative Assembly Speaker and Legislative Council Chairman, who are custodians of Suvarna Soudha.
The offices that would be shifted to Belagavi where the winter session is now being held, include the office of Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama, Karnataka Neeravari Nigama, Karnataka State Textiles Infrastructure Development Corporation, Director of Sugar and Sugarcane Development Commissioner office, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board(which would be divided and a separate Board set up for North Karnataka), Archaeology and Museum Department, One member of Karnataka Human Rights Commission, Two members of RTI and One Upa Lokayukta’s office.
Besides, another office for RTI would be set up at Kalaburgi, where two RTI Commissioners would be appointed.
Sources said that the office of the Upa Lokayukta would be set up outside Suvarna Soudha. However, if the government wants to shift the other eight offices to Suvarna Soudha, it needs permission from heads of both the Houses.
Otherwise, the government will have to scout for eight new offices in Belagavi city, sources added.
