Madras High Court relief for financier in Ashok Kumar case

As Sasikumar was busy with his next film, his manager Ashok Kumar dealt with the financial issues.

Chennai: The Madras high court has stayed all further proceedings pending before the Kanthu Vatti unit of the Central Crime Branch in Vepery against film financier G.N. Anbuchezian, an accused in the film director and actor Ashok Kumar suicide case.

Justice M.S. Ramesh who granted the interim stay also ordered notice, returnable by January 29 to the Inspectors of Police, CCB, Kanthu Vatti unit and Valasaravakkam police station respectively, besides the complainant M. Sasikumar on a petition filed by Anbuchezian, which sought to quash the entire proceedings pending before the CCB against him.

Putting the entire blame on the complainant Sasikumar, an actor and director, who had borrowed huge money on various occasions from him, Anbuchezian in his petition submitted that Sasikumar had availed financial assistance from him for the production of the Tamil film Tharai Thappattai which did not perform well and caused heavy loss. When Sasikumar was taking steps to release the present film Kodiveeran, for which also he borrowed money from him, he insisted him to settle dues along with interest.

He also informed him that he will not allow him to release the movie if he fails to repay the outstanding.

As Sasikumar was busy with his next film, his manager Ashok Kumar dealt with the financial issues. While so, Ashok Kumar committed suicide on November 21 leaving behind a note, he added.

He contended that Sasikumar, in his complaint, had cleverly suppressed the fact about the money he had borrowed from him. The entire allegation coupled with the alleged suicide note, under no stretch of the imagination would constitute an offence against him. At no point in time, Ashok Kumar borrowed any amount from him.

It was only Sasikumar who borrowed money on various occasions and remained default. There was nothing between him and the deceased Ashok Kumar and the sole person responsible for the incident was only Sasikumar.

With a view to avoiding repayment of the loan, Sasikular took advantage of the situation and lodged the present complaint, he alleged.
