Hyderabad: Medical negligence claims 9 year old's life
Hyderabad: Administering general anaesthesia for a hand injury was gross negligence on the part of medicos stated the medical board constituted by the director of health and medical education.
Hardik Jena, a 9-year-old boy, cut his hand while playing in the corridor of his school, Glen-dale Academy International School on January 27, 2016. He was brought to Olive Hospitals in Mehdipatnam and a plastic surgery was done on him by Dr Srikanth Kathi.
The medical board in its report to the health department observed that the child had no previous illness and there was no need to give him general anaesthesia.
The condition of the boy deteriorated in the post-operative ward and there were complications that were neglected by the doctors which led to his death.
Hardik’s father, Ashish Jena who has been following up with authorities said, “I am happy that the report has come out after a year and it shows that the doctor is guilty. We are going to follow up the case with the police. Both the hospital and the doctor are accountable and their license must be cancelled. The report clearly shows that the doctors were negligent.”
