Hyderabad: No relocation of Nehru Zoological Park

Asked about the claim, zoo director Dr Siddhanand zoo said it was just a false message doing the rounds.

HYDERABAD: A post on social media went viral on Tuesday, claiming that the Nehru Zoological Park was being shifted from its current location near Mir Alam Tank to a forest area three km from Shadnagar. Asked about the claim, zoo director Dr Siddhanand zoo said it was just a false message doing the rounds.

The message stated that many animals were suffering due to the rising pollution levels in the zoo, owing to its proximity to residential and industrial establishments that had come up nearby, and therefore such a move was sought.

“It is a completely baseless message. No zoo official has given such a quote. How can we plan to shift while the lives of so many animals are at stake? Enclosures and treatments cannot be planned in a short span of time. We are trying to ensure that the zoo has clean air by increasing greenery. We are not planning on shifting the zoo’s premises,” said a zoo official.

An official also confirmed that a lot of work was done in the zoo premises this summer to ensure that no flooding occurs during the monsoon. The official further stated, “We have been working through the year to ensure a better environment for our animals. We cannot risk having them go through adaption changes in a new habitat.”
