Government to tighten grip on Kochi Muziris Biennale

To propose converting the trust into a society.

Kochi: The Kochi Muziris Biennale, which has emerged as a signature art and cultural extravaganza attracting half a million footfalls, has come under the prying eyes of the ideological control of the state government. The government has summoned the office bearers of Kochi Muziris Biennale Foundation (KBF), the private trust that runs the event, for a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

The meeting convened by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will propose the KBF founders to convert the trust into a society with government nominees and broader representation of members from the world of art and culture. Although KBF founder leaders remained tight-lipped about the meeting persons familiar with the development said the meeting was in the wake of a feeling in the government circles that all is not well with the functioning of the KBF.
