Court demands quick verification on Lake Palace Resort encroachment

The Vigilance court said that the investigation could not be delayed unduly and the report should be submitted by January 4th.

Kottayam: The Kottayam vigilance court on Tuesday directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to submit a quick verification report into the incident in which a road was constructed into the Lake Palace resort thereby reclaiming paddy fields within two weeks. The Court ordered this when the government lawyer informed the court that the Vigilance Director returned the report citing absence of clarity.

The Vigilance court said that the investigation could not be delayed unduly and the report should be submitted by January 4th. The court demanded to submit the report within 15 days though the government lawyer maintained that they haven't recorded the statement of former Collectors of Alappuzha Saurabh Jain and Venugopal which is essential for the case.

Behera seeks clarity on report

Vigilance director Loknath Behera has sought more clarification on a preliminary probe report against former Minister Thomas Chandy. According to sources, Mr. Behera pointed out that though six allegations were there against Chandy, only one was probed into by the vigilance. He wanted the investigation team to probe into all the six allegations against Chandy pertaining to his Alappuzha resort.

While the Vigilance special court in Kottayam had ordered a preliminary probe against Chandy on the basis of a petition, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau received five other petitions raising various other allegations.
