View digital development critically: CJI TS Thakur

He expressed concern over the delay in filling up vacancies in the judiciary and sanctioning of new judges to address the pending cases.

Bengaluru: Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur on Monday said that digital development must be viewed critically and not cynically. He was speaking at the Karnataka State Judicial Officers Association's 18th biennial Conference here on Monday.

Referring to the central government's move to encourage digital payment mechanisms following demonetisation, he said that it will make way for complex legal issues requiring lawyers and judges capable of dealing with such revolution and legal dynamics of the changing digital world.

He expressed concern over the delay in filling up vacancies in the judiciary and sanctioning of new judges to address the issue of pending cases. "The judiciary must to the last man remain committed to doing its best despite the daunting task before it," he said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the proposal to create 121 new posts of assistant public prosecutors and also recruitment of 275 assistant public prosecutors in the state is under serious consideration.

"We are planning to fill up 4,334 posts of all cadres in a phased manner," he said, announcing that the state government has approved a project to the tune of Rs 6.33 crore for the second phase of computerisation of courts in the state.
