Telangana mulling to set up authority to promote clean air in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The Telangana government is mulling to set up a Hyderabad Clean Air Authority to check pollution and promote clean air in the city.
Citing the example of a clean air authority put in place in Tokyo, Telangana Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said the state government is studying the idea.
The minister was replying to a query in the Legislative Assembly on noise pollution in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.
Noting that Hyderabad fared better in comparison to some other cities in the country in Air Quality Index (AQI), he said the state government is planning to take measures like shifting out polluting industries from residential locality in the city.
The other proposed measures include setting up sewerage treatment plant, effluent treatment plants and checking pollution by vehicles, he said. The Telangana state pollution control board monitors air quality in the city, Rao said.
MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and his party members expressed concern over the rising noise pollution, and also air and water pollution in the city.
