Mysuru: Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar denied on Monday that the state government was trying to protect former excise Minister , H Y Meti in the sex scandal which cost him his position in the cabinet.
“No, definitely not,” he said, when asked if the government was trying to shield the former minister and recalled that the government had taken all the legal steps in the case.
Asked why only an inquiry was being held in the case and not an investigation, the Home Minister said, “There was no complaint in the case. Now that we have received one, we will go according to the law.”
The Congress leader also denied there was any link between the resignation of former police officer, Anupama Shenoy and the Meti episode. “It is not fair to link both. Mr Meti had no power to reinstate Ms Shenoy,” he added.
On former MP, A H Vishwanath’s view that he should not hold a dual position in the party, he said it was his personal opinion. On the allegation that senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and Tata tea estate had encroached on thousands of acres of land in Kodagu, he said, “Kodagu district administration will assess and take the right decision.”
