Demonetisation has support of people: Pon Radhakrishnan
Puducherry: Though people were inconvenienced by the ongoing demonetisation of high denomination currency notes, the move has full public support, said Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan.
"People feel this move is necessary for economic development of the country, thus they support it and are ready to bear the pain for a larger gain," he said while talking to reporters here on Monday.
Calling it as a decisive measure to save the country, the Minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping said that the Prime Minister through demonetisation will lead the nation on an excellent economic path. Replying to question on the allegations of corruption raised by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi against Prime Minister in the demonetisation matter, Mr Radhakrishnan said that instead of raising allegations, Rahul Gandhi should disclose details.
"Rahul Gandhi is a responsible parliamentarian and he has got the moral responsibility to disclose the details of his allegations against the Prime Minister," said Mr Radhakrishnan.
On Cauvery water dispute, the union minister said nationalising rivers would be the best way to put an end to the disputes on river water. Mr Radhakrishnan was here to inaugurate a seminar on "road safety," organised by Puducherry Transport Department in co-ordination with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The Centre is taking all possible steps to reduce road accidents in the country said Mr Radhakrishnan . The government is contemplating introducing a light weight helmet to reduce the number of fatal accidents involving two-wheelers, he added.
Chief Minister V Naraynasamy and Transport Minister MOHF Shajahan among others participated in the seminar.
