Bengaluru: New flyover to ease ORR traffic from January 31?
Bengaluru: If all goes well, the Kittur Rani Chennamma flyover near Devegowda petrol bunk will be thrown open to public by January 31.
Bangalore Development and Town Planning Minister K.J. George on Monday directed BBMP officials to ensure that the flyover is opened for public use by January 31.
After an inspection, he said that once the flyover is opened, it will ease the movement of traffic on Outer Ring Road (ORR) and will enable signal-free movement from Banashankari to Kamakya.
The flyover, which has been built at a cost of Rs 35.80 crore, has been delayed by two years. Officials said that it is because of time taken to shift the utilities and to acquire private land.
Noticing that the Signal Free Corridor from Mysore Road to Central Silk Board junction, which has been taken up at a cost of Rs 153 crore, is yet to be completed, he directed officials to expedite the work.
Mr George, along with Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) officials, inspected the rail over bridge work at Jalahalli MES which has been taken up on cost sharing basis between the BDA and South Western Railways (SWR). He directed officials to complete the project within 10 days.
The flyover hit the national headlines when a third standard student wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on how students were losing time because of heavy traffic during peak hours.
The project has been taken up at a cost of Rs 28.35 crore and BDA is contributing Rs 15.12 crore, while the rest is from the Railways.
He inspected another signal-free corridor from Okalipuram Junction to Yeshwanthpur that is being built at a cost of '102.9 crore. The project is an eight-lane corridor with loops, an underpass and a road underpass at Okalipuram junction. Mr George directed officials of both the railways and BBMP to put the project on fast track.
Railway officials assured the minister that they would complete two box-type underpasses and hand it over to the BBMP to complete other parts of the project. One portion of the project will be completed by August 2017, they said.
