Driver suffers fits, runs over school kid

VISAKHAPATNAM: An RTC bus ran amok killing a 12-year-old boy and injuring a woman in Dharmavaram village near S. Kota under Vizianagaram district on Sunday morning. The mishap took place after the driver suddenly suffered fits.

The bus was on way to Vizianagaram from S. Kota carrying 43 passengers when the accident took place. The police said that no passenger in the bus was injured.

Eyewitnesses said the bus, after knocking down the boy, rammed into a house, seriously injuring the house owner, a woman. The driver was identified as R.G. Naidu. He was taken to Sungarapadu panchayat hospital for treatment.

Circle inspector of S. Kota Simhadri Naidu and his team visited the spot and inquired into the incident. The dead boy was identified as Abhishek, studying in seventh standard in a private school. His father, Govinda Rao, runs an auto rickshaw for a living, and his mother, Madhavi, is a housewife. After many years of marriage, Abhishek was born. Residents of Dharmavaram said the couple was inconsolable due to the loss of their only child. The depot manager of ASRTC, Ramesh, also visited the accident spot and told reporters that the driver submitted a fitness certificate 15 days ago. He said he was not aware that the driver had suffered fits in the past.
