President condoles loss of lives in Kanpur train accident
New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday condoled the loss of lives due to derailment of Indore-Patna Express near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
"I am sad to learn about the accident in which many have lost their lives and a number of persons are injured, when Indore-Patna Express ran off the tracks near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
"I am sure that the state government is providing all possible assistance to the bereaved families who have lost their near and dear ones as well as medical aid to the injured," Mukherjee said in a message to Ram Naik, Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
The President conveyed his condolences to the family members of the deceased.
"I pray to the Almighty to give them the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. I wish speedy recovery to the injured persons," he said
Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu expressed anguish at the loss of lives.
"It is extremely unfortunate. I am pained at the death of citizens in the accident. I pray for the bereaved families and the injured passengers," Naidu said.
Over 100 passengers were killed and many seriously injured when 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed near Pukhraya in Kanpur dehat district in the wee hours today.
