Hyderabad: Lack of hope wrecks lives

Ms Priyanka Padhi, a city-based clinical psychologist, said when a couple fights, there is a build-up of anger.

Hyderabad: Friday’s incident at Mansoorabad where a woman took the lives of her two children before committing suicide is the third such tragedy this year.

Similar incidents have taken place at Meerpet, Chandanagar.

Ms Priyanka Padhi, a city-based clinical psychologist, said when a couple fights, there is a build-up of anger. The next argument or fight can lead to rash behaviour or impulsiveness due to the anger and the revenge they want to take against the spouse, she said.

“The decision to commit suicide for some is based on a reasoned decision, often motivated by the presence of a painful life that they are leading in the marriage, from which little or no hope of reprieve exists,” she said.

“They are trying to take control of their and their children's destiny and alleviate their suffering, which usually can only be done in death,” Ms Padhi said.
