Be cautious while travelling to Bhainsa for Rahul Gandhi's meet

Officials have to remove the food grains from the roads to prevent road accidents.

BHAINSA (NIRMAL): Some farmers are dry maize and jowar cobs on the main road between Nirmal to Bhainsa and this may cause road accidents as Congress leaders, members and people will come in large numbers in hundreds of vehicles to Bhainsa to attend Rahul Gandhi’s meeting on October 20.

Sun drying, by spreading the grains under the sun, is the traditional method of reducing the moisture content of paddy and other food grains in villages.
According to Congress party sources, they were mobilising nearly 2 lakh people from the nearby Assembly constituencies for Rahul Gandhi’s meeting.
Their vehicles might skid off the road if they came on the drying maize and jowar in the villages along the road from Nirmal to Bhainsa.

This practice is popularly called as ‘Kallam’. K Chinnanna of Bhainsa said that the drying of food grains on the main road posed a threat to the people and also caused road accidents and it was high time to remove them from the main road and allow for free flow of traffic in view of Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Officials have to remove the food grains from the roads to prevent road accidents. Some farmers practice Kallam to separate the grains from the cobs without much effort or engaging labour.

Some others occupy some portion of both sides of the road and mark them off with boulders. This reduces the road space and results in road accidents when vehicle movement is more and drivers try to overtake other vehicles moving in the same direction.
