Warangal: A 19-year-old Intermediate student accidentally drowned in the river Godavari at Kamalapur of Mangapet mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Patibandla Surya Teja. Surya Teja along with two of his friends had gone for a swim in the river, despite none of them being able to swim.
Reaching the shallow waters, they were unable to stay afloat, and began to scream for help. Local fishermen who saw the boys struggling managed to save two of the boys. By the time the fishermen returned to save Surya Teja he had drowned.
The police were informed and expert divers from Mallur Chanchupalli were brought in to conduct a search. After searching for two hours, the divers located the body of Suray Teja and his body was brought ashore in the evening.
