Tamil Nadu Transport department earns Rs 8.77 crore from its 11,000 special buses
Chennai: The State Transport Corporation has raised revenue of Rs 8.77 crore by operating nearly 11,000 special buses during Deepavali season. More than 5.52 lakh commuters benefited from the special bus service across the state, a press release from transport department said.
Minister for transport M.R. Vijayabhaskar appreciated Chennai police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan for assisting the department to operate the special fleet smoothly during the festival season. The minister also distributed sweets the police personnel. The minister also reviewed the arrangements made at temporary bus terminus in MEPZ, Poonamalle, Anna Nagar, CMBT and Omini bus terminal on Wednesday night.
In Chennai, special services operated from five places. Over 3.47 lakh commuters travelled on 7,029 buses operated from CMBT, 39,782 traveled on 747 Andhra Pradesh-bound buses from Anna Nagar bus terminus.
More than 44,000 passengers reached their destination in 833 buses operated from Saidapet court bus stop to Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram and 32,000 traveled on 667 buses originated from the MEPZ bus terminus in Tambaram Sanatorium to Kumbakonam.
Over 88,500 commuters travelled in 1,717 buses operated from Poonamallee bus terminus to Krishnagiri, Hosur and Vellore. Special ticket booking counters functioned in Koyambedu, Tambaram Sanatorium and Ponnamallee.
The release further stated that during the season, a total of 5.52 lakh passengers have travelled in 10,993 buses operated in the state. The department raised an income of Rs 5.14 crore as 1.50 lakh passengers reserved their ticket in the state run buses.
A total of 3,794 specials buses are to be operated from the districts to Chennai for passengers returning to the city. The buses would be operated for four days from October 19. it’s advance booking has generated revenue of Rs 3.34 crore as 1 lakh passengers reserved their tickets.
