Mild showers likely, NE monsoon to set in by month-end
Chennai: Sporadic rainfall across the state will reduce in the coming days and the depression over Bay of Bengal will cross Orissa by Friday.
There are possibilities of mild rains over the next few days and the northeast monsoon is likely to set by the month-end, weather office sources said. With no copious rains the inflow into the dams reduced on Thursday.
The regional meteorological department in its cyclone bulletin said that the depression over west central Bay of Bengal moved north-north westwards with a speed of 15 kmph and lay centred on October 19, near Latitude 17.3º N and Longitude 86.3 ºE, about 390 km south-southwest of Chandbali and 280 km south-southeast of Puri.
Under its influence the sea will be rough and heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Distant cautionary signal number one with section signal number two was also advised and kept hoisted at Chennai, Cuddalore and Nagapattinam ports. Rough sea weather information also passed to Kolachel and Rameswaram, weather office said.
In the past 24 hours, the state witnessed less rainfall at Tirukattupalli (Thanjavur district), Thoothukudi, Pullambadi (Trichy), Bhoothapandy (Kanyakumari district).
Parts of lower Palani hills and Kodaikanal also received rainfall.
