Forensic experts visit Trinamool lawmaker Abhishek Banerjee's accident spot
Kolkata: A day after Trinamool lawmaker and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, was injured in a road mishap, a team of forensic experts visited the accident site near Singur on National Highway 2.
The team collected broken glasses, examined the paints on the surface of the truck with which Abhishek Banerjee's car collided while returning to Kolkata after a public meeting in Murshidabad district.
Police registered attempt to murder and conspiracy case against unknown persons in connection with the mishap involving Mr Banerjee, the All India Trinamool Youth Congress president.
Sections under the Highways Act were also added in the case, a senior officer of the CID said.
Though nobody was detained in the incident, a few persons, mainly eyewitnesses, were questioned by the CID, the officer said.
Sources in the CID said reconstruction of the entire incident would be done to evaluate "who was responsible for the mishap".
The Chief Minister visited the nursing home, where Mr Banerjee is undergoing treatment, towards the afternoon.
Senior party leader Manas Bhuniya, who recently joined the Trinamool from the Congress was accompanying Abhishek Banerjee, said that his own vehicle was behind the Trinamool lawmaker's convoy.
