Thiruvananthapuram: LDF takes ‘flyover’ route to win Pala

To project UDF government as corrupt.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday indirectly referred to the allegations of corruption against former PWD minister Ibrahim Kunju in Palarivattom flyover case, saying one person’s story has come to light today and he is going to face the music.

The Chief Minister, without naming Kunju, said if the person does not fall in line, he will have to consume government sponsored food. He was indirectly hinting at Muslim League leader’s possible arrest in the flyover case.

The Chief Minister’s statement made at an election meeting in Kottayam clearly indicates that the LDF is trying to cash in on the corruption case in the Pala bypoll. The serious corruption charges in connection with Palarivattom flyover could not have come at a better time for the ruling front.

The LDF camp is upbeat as it believes the startling accusations made by former PWD secretary T.O. Sooraj, who is in custody, against the minister, exposes the corruption in the previous Ooommen Chandy government. The vigilance team has also claimed that it has evidence against the former minister indicating that the arrest of the minister is imminent.

It is in this context that the ruling LDF has scaled up its attack on the UDF which was daring the Chief Minister to seek votes on his government’s performance. The Chief Minister seems to have accepted the challenge.

Mr Vijayan is making it a point to draw a parallel between his government’s three-and-a-half years track record in tackling corruption with the previous Oommen Chandy Government’s tenure at every election meeting in Pala constituency,
The LDF focus on corruption is part of its strategy to turn the tables on UDF which had described the forthcoming bypoll as a referendum on the government.
