Kochi: MC@50 offers free heart, eye surgeries
KOCHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the year-long golden jubilee celebrations of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) Medical Mission Hospital at a function presided over by Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, at 3 pm on Sunday.
Health minister K. K. Shylaja will launch the 100 free heart surgery programme as part of the celebrations by handing over the consent letter to the first patient.
The 1000 free cataract surgery programme, another golden jubilee initiative, will be launched by general education minister C. Raveendranath.
Benny Behanan MP and V. P. Sajeendran MLA will also be present.
Health screening for 10,000 students will be held during the year-long celebrations.
The hospital will also organise cancer care projects, outreach to tribal colonies and mega medical exhibitions.
IKoNIC Card Initiative, a novel initiative for a select group of newborns in MOSC during the golden jubilee year, will also be launched.
"The hospital will host various programmes, including medical conferences, awareness programmes and continuing medical education programmes every month," said Joy P. Jacob, secretary and Chief Executive Officer, MOSC Medical Mission Hospital.
Started on September 14, 1970, with 100 beds, the hospital has grown to 1,100-bed medical college hospital with 34 clinical and non-clinical departments over the years. Currently, it has 200 doctors and 1,600 supporting staff.
