Bengaluru: SSLC student dies of electrocution

KR Puram police registered a case of death caused by negligence against Bescom officials and the building owner Raja.

BENGALURU: An uncovered high tension wire proved fatal for a 15-year-old girl when she came in contact with it while playing on the terrace. Her neighbour, a 9-year-old boy is also battling for his life in a hospital.

According to police, Sheik Arifa (15) and her neighbour Mohsin were playing on the terrace and came in contact with a high tension wire that was dangerously dangling near their building on September 14.

Shek Arifa, was a resident of Raja Building in Thriveni Nagar in KR Puram and she was studying 10th standard at the Holy Angels School in Devasandra. The injured boy Mohammed Mohsin was her neighbour and a fourth standard student studying in the same school.

Arifa’s father Shek Jainullabuddin was away at work when the incident happened. Arifa is the only child to the couple who hail from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. They had come to the city 20 years ago.

According to police, the incident happened around 4 pm. Initially, Mohsin who went to a corner of the terrace came in contact with a high tension wire and sustained shock and he fell down. Arifa who was running behind to touch him also came in contact with the live wire and fell down.

Arifa’s mother Gouse Unnisa Begum with the help of a few neighbours rushed both daughter Arifa and Mohsin to the KR Puram government hospital. Both kids were later shifted to Victoria Hospital.

Arifa succumbed to injuries in the wee hours of September 18. Mohsin continues to remain critical, the police said.

Jainullabuddin, in his complaint, said that high tension wire was dangerously dangling close to the building especially during heavy rains and winds and was brought to the notice of the Bescom officials and the building owner. But, they ignored the problem.

Soon after the demise of Arifa, the KR Puram police registered a case of death caused by negligence against Bescom officials and the building owner Raja.
