Hyderabad: After their wedding on September 12, the couple approached SR Nagar Police station and asked the officials to counsel their respective parents as they had got married secretly without their parents’ consent, said ACP Panjagutta, Mr Vijay Kumar.
“The couple told the police that they were both adults and had married according to their will and wish and further requested them to call their families and counsel them, following which both the parties were called to the police station,” said the official.
They were counselled and during the session, the girl’s (Madhavi) mother even asked her to come back home but when she refused the counsellor Manoharachary said, “When she is not willing to go, let her stay” and the session was dismissed on a good note, added the official.
The attack came as a shock to everyone as the families seemed to accept their wedding. “They made us trust them and back-stabbed us like this. We hope justice is done by the law,” said Madhu, Sandeep’s brother.
“Such is the narrow-mindedness of this casteist society that a father is ready to kill his own daughter,” said the president of Dalits’ United committee. “This has happened in the heart of the city,” said the nation president of the Maala community.
"It happened in Miryalaguda earlier and repeated itself in Hyderabad today and will continue to happen further if there is no stringent action taken against these men. We strongly condemn this act and will make sure justice is done to the family", said Mr. Chandrashekar, President of Dalitula Aika Vadya.
