Hyderabad: The couple, Sandeep, 21, and Madhavi, 18, were in a love relationship since 2011 and had an Arya Samaj marriage six days ago. They lived at his home in Erragadda with his mother who works as a domestic help.
Madhavi’s father Manoharachary came to their home and met the couple, said Anuradha, Sandeep’s sister. She said that her family too did not know about the relationship until they got married six days ago.
“We accepted their marriage and Madhavi has been staying with us since. On Wednesday afternoon, Manoharachary came home and met my mother and spoke to her for a while and then left. He then called on his daughter’s phone and said that her mother wants to see her and coaxed them to come to the main road in Erragadda. By the time my brother went there along with Madhavi, Manoharachary was drunk and asked them to leave. While they were leaving, he called them and asked them to wait so they stopped their scooter and waited for him. He stopped his bike next to them and started attacking,” Anuradha said.
Sandeep’s brother Madhu said Manoharachary was not happy with the marriage as he was a goldsmith and Sandeep was Scheduled Caste. “He had shown a little disinterest in their marriage before, but the attack was unexpected,” Madhu added.
"We will not let the men behind this go unpunished as a similar incident happened just five days ago and people like Manoharachary and others will not stop until strong action is taken against them by our judicial system," said Naveen, Sandeep's close friend. He said that he had known the couple since school days and that Madhavi was really happy after the wedding.
