Bisle Ghat opens for traffic

The Ghat section runs between Shiradi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat.

Mangaluru: After a gap of over a month, bus services have resumed in Bisle Ghat section of SH 85. The Ghat section was damaged by the landslide last month.

SH 85 connects Bengaluru and Jalsur near Kukke Subrahmnaya via Bisle Ghat. The Ghat section runs between Shiradi Ghat and Sampaje Ghat. The landslide last month had damaged NH 75 at Shiradi Ghat, NH 275 at Sampaje Ghat and SH 85 at Bisile Ghat section leaving only Charmadi Ghat as a connecting point between coastal and hinterland.

Movement of heavy vehicles are still restricted on Shiradi Ghat and movement of vehicle is completely banned in Sampaje Ghat. Opening of Bisle Ghat road would help hundreds of people especially those who travel between the temple town of Kukke Subrahmanya to places like Somwarapet, Hassan and Bengaluru as this is one of the short route.

Several sections in the Ghat was severely damaged due to landslide. But in a span of about one month officials have undertaken repairs and have opened it for vehicles.

Sources said that the repair work is still underway. However bus service has been resumed to provide connectivity to the people. "Our bus service has been resumed in this section. The route had three scheduled trips between Kukke and Bengaluru and we have resumed all of them. Opening this route will help those who travel from Kukke Subrahmanya to Hassan and Bengaluru," KSRTC Puttur Divisional Controller told Deccan Chronicle. These buses travel via Arakalgud, Holenarasipura to reach Bengaluru.
