Telangana: Police vigil up, shows positive results

According to director general (Road Safety) Mr T Krishna Prasad on an average of Rs 110 crore was collected every year as enforcement fine.

Hyderabad: TS police and road safety authorities has stepped up enforcement this year, due to which the cases have gone up by 37 per cent and collection of fees has gone up by 43 per cent.

According to director general (Road Safety) Mr T. Krishna Prasad, on an average of Rs 110 crore was collected every year as enforcement fine. “This year by September 10, around 102 crore has been collected.”

Mr Krishna Prasad said that due to sustained efforts there is a reduction of road accidents by 10.6 per cent. In 2016, around 4,817 persons died and this year 4,306 persons died during the corresponding period. The death rate for 100 accidents has also decreased by 3.41 per cent. In 2016, around 32 people died for every 100 road accidents and this year the number is 29 for every 100 accidents.

“The number of accidents in 2016 and 2017 are almost the same, but deaths have decreased. This is due to the positive impact of enforcement and awareness,” said Krishna Prasad.
