In the meeting, farmers' representatives unanimously placed two demands freedom from debt and full remunerative prices.

Chennai: As part of the nationwide farmers' yatra, various farmers' organisations from all over India organized a meeting on Tuesday at SBOA junior college under the umbrella of the All India Kisan Sangarsh Coordination Committee. In the meeting, farmers' representatives unanimously placed two demands — freedom from debt and full remunerative prices.

The yatris thanked the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation for extending support. They also said that this was a special gesture since it is the one of the few traders' federation in India that has joined hands to demand rights for farmers.

"Traders have a special relationship with farmers and we assure that we will to work shoulder to shoulder with them," said Vellaiyan, chief of the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation.

The meeting was attended by VM Singh of Rashtriya Kisan Majdoor Sangh, Yogendra Yadav, ex-MLA Dr. Sunilam, Raju Shetty, founder of Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathana and others. Actor Prakash Raj also expressed his support to the yatra and the rights of the farmers.

"Indian agriculture is in a triple crisis - economic, ecological and existential. Tamil Nadu is one of the highest in terms of agriculture indebtedness in the country with 85 per cent indebtedness, next only to Andhra Pradesh," said Yogendra Yadav. In an appeal to Tamil Nadu farmers, Singh sought their support when the yatra assembles in Delhi on November 20 when the winter session of Parliament starts. Around 21 farmer organisations from Tamil Nadu have pledged support.

The second phase of the yatra, presently in Tamil Nadu, after touring Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will enter Kerala and Karnataka.
