CPI, PMK lash out at Centre on Cauvery arguments in SC
Chennai: CPI and PMK on Tuesday lashed out at the Central government's arguments in the Supreme Court on the Cauvery water dispute on the final day of hearing and expressed happiness over the apex court's rejection of the Centre's arguments against the formation of Cauvery Management Board.
CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan pointed out that Supreme Court had raised several questions to the Union government for its refusal to form the Cauvery Management Board, but the Centre had given false information to the court on the issue.
On the last day of hearing on the Cauvery dispute, the Centre had opposed CMB, confirming that there was no change in its stand of acting against Tamil Nadu's interests. The Centre had argued that Supreme Court did not have the power to go into water disputes states, but the contention had been rejected by the Supreme Court.
The court also asked the Centre why the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal had not been implemented even after ten years and the Centre had placed only negative arguments, he said.
Expressing shock over Centre's arguments, which were against the interests of Tamil Nadu, PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss said the Centre had opposed the final verdict of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and strongly opposed the formation of the CMB more than Karnataka government itself, he said.
The Centre should correct its course on the Cauvery dispute at least after the condemnation of the Supreme Court, Anbumani said.
