Kerala: Nine wagons of goods train derail near Kollam, rail traffic disrupted
Kollam: Nine wagons of a goods train carrying fertilisers derailed near Kollam, disrupting rail traffic between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam sections, officials said on Tuesday.
The derailment occurred last night at Matharithottam near Sasthamcotta near Karunagapalli causing damage to rail track and overhead electric lines. The train was on its way from Madurai to Kottayam.
Ten passenger trains were cancelled and four others short terminated and rail traffic between Kollam and Kayamkulam stations were regulated on a single line, officials said.
Though no long-distance express train were cancelled, four of them were diverted. Traffic on the section is expected to become normal by evening. Departure of few express trains from Thiruvananthapuram have also been rescheduled,officials said.
On August 28, 12 bogies of the Mangaluru-bound Express train had derailed at Karukutty, about 45 km from Kochi.
